Maxwell Drew Is “Precious & Peaceful”: Why Did Jessica Simpson Choose The Name?

There are some new stories about Jessica Simpson’s delivery, following the fabrication on the cover of OK! a month ago and the information from In Touch Weekly about the delivery plan passed off as a delivery exclusive two weeks ago.

Firstly, there’s a mini controversy about Simpson and fiance Eric Johnson’s choice of baby name. Specifically, the apparent choice to give a somewhat masculine or boy’s name to their baby girl. Maxwell Drew Johnson, shortened and feminised a little as Maxi which is also problematic with the “Maxi Pad” thing that’s already a running joke. It feels like a series of unfortunate choices. However, it’s really just a collection of family names, notes Us Weekly: “Both the Johnson and Simpson family names are carried on with the couple’s new daughter. Maxwell is Eric’s middle name and his grandmother’s surname. Maxwell takes her middle name from maternal grandmother Tina Simpson, whose maiden name is Drew.”

There’s another Us Weekly story, purporting to offer quotes from Tina Simpson as overheard following the delivery in the $4,000-a-day birthing suite at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles: “Maxwell is so precious and peaceful.”

Another source recounts the what the family did during the birth: “The party included Joe and Tina Simpson. They all sat at a corner table together and were in good spirits… Tina said she felt Jessica was in good spirits while others joked Eric seemed to be the nervous one.”
