Megan Fox: I Was Misquoted In Jalouse, I’m Not That Vapid & Self-Serving

Megan Fox covers the April 2012 issue of Jalouse Magazine. From which we get several purported quotes from an interview conducted in English, published in French, then translated back to English for the sake of re-posting.

The interview was a mess. And, even skimming it, it was apparent something was off with the wording. Although, without the original recording or an original English annotation of some kind, it would have been hard to do anything better than parse the quotes published on the magazine’s own website (in French, after being translated from English).

In any case, Fox is quoted as saying she’d rather be pretty than trade with an “unattractive” woman, which could be taken several ways. Except literally everyone appears to have taken it the same way, in part because of the image Fox created for herself through interviews in which she later admitted she often embellished to keep the public at arm’s length.

Clarifying further on Facebook, Fox says she’d too self-aware to ever say anything that insipid: “Before this starts to circulate and spin into something else I want to address a ‘quote’ that has started to run from an interview I did with a French magazine called Jalouse. The quote reads ‘i wouldn’t trade my place with an unattractive girl.’ Sigh. The actual comment, the context and it’s intention are grossly distorted and misrepresented here. I gave this interview in English obviously, it was then translated to French and now back into English. I’ve never made vapid self serving comments and in contradiction am uncontrollably self deprecating.”
